What Can Aesthetic Dentistry do for the Color of Teeth?

Aesthetic dentistry uses the latest and greatest tools of dentistry to give you the whitest smile possible. If you’re unhappy with the appearance and color of your teeth, then aesthetic dentistry can help you get back on track. Here are a few treatments that will give you cleaner teeth and a whiter smile.

Veneers

One of the top treatments used by aesthetic dentists to alter the color of your teeth is by installing veneers. Veneers are thin shells that get cemented to the front of any teeth that are chipped or discolored. The shell that gets cemented is specifically designed to give you whiter teeth that are more aesthetically pleasing.

The downside of veneers is that your dentist will have to remove some of the enamel, so your teeth don’t look bulky when the veneers are installed. This will require several visits to the dentist’s office and can be a bit of a process. The result, however, is bound to have you smiling.

Composite bonding

If you want to go a less invasive and quicker route of improving the color of your teeth, then composite bonding is worth considering. During this process, a composite solution is made to match the color of your teeth or the color you want your teeth to be.

The dentist will then gently scratch the fronts of your teeth to roughen them up ever so slightly. This is done so that the composite will better adhere to your teeth. Composite bonding isn’t as permanent as veneers and will usually last up to 5 years.

Teeth whitening treatments

One of the most popular options for whiter teeth is teeth whitening. While this is a whitening technique that’s been around for many years, modern methods are more effective than techniques used in the past.

During your teeth whitening treatment, your dentist will use a bleaching agent such as hydrogen peroxide to get rid of pesky stains. This is usually done by using a custom-made mouthpiece to match the exact shape of your teeth. The mouthpiece is filled with the whitening agent, and you will bite down on it for an hour or so. Fully immersing your teeth in the solution ensures that all the parts of your teeth are whitened.

One of the modern tricks that an aesthetic dentist might use to speed up and improve the process is lasers. When lasers are added to the bleaching process, it makes for a whiter smile faster.

Dental crowns

Crowns aren’t just for your molars and can be added to the fronts of your teeth to improve their color. The process is like that of installing veneers. The enamel on your teeth may need to be removed so that the crowns don’t appear bulky. Crowns are an excellent way to hide color flaws on your teeth.

No matter what method you decide to use to improve the color of your teeth, aesthetic dentistry will get the job done for you.
